Being in the Guard a problem

Postby hrotccadet » Wed Aug 12, 2009 9:52 pm

Ok here is another question I am currently a Sophomore in college and plan on joining the National Guard in my senior year of college, I was in the guard previouslly but due to a long story I am not in right now and have been discharged with an uncharacterized discharge, anyhow I want to go back in but am concerned that when i go back in and am in that eventually when i start looking for work that no empolyer will hire me because I will be in the Guard and he maybe concenred that I will be called up or just about any time I will have to give to the Service. Has anyone heard of any situations such as this with firms or the goverment? If so please post or if you guys have any advice about how to do all this then feel free to post it. Thanks

In my experience, most employers will actually view your participation in the National Guard as a positive - I think it should be one of the highlights of your resume. Having said that, I should clarify that this will not always be the case.
